Earthlight

It’s been a long time coming, and I’m glad it’s finally here: Earthlight, a brand new, unreleased, Chung Kuo novella available for free digital download, exclusively from Of Gifts and Stones. Earthlight takes place in the year 2105 and adds to the story of the Osu, one of my favorite aspects of the Chung Kuo universe.

I’m told this is the first of many new wonderful things to come.

Thanks, as always, to Mr. Wingrove for continuing to provide the fan community with new content and for allowing me the honor of hosting it.

Download Earthlight now in PDF format.

  1. This is brilliant. Thanks to Mr Wingrove for providing this and Matt for hosting it.

I haven’t read it yet, I’m waiting for some free time when I can give this my I divided attention. All i can say for now is, I am excited.

    All the best,
    Jewell

  2. Wow, 48 pages…

This is absolutely fantastic, more than we could ever have hoped for. The fact that this site exists means that we are able to get this quality material directly from Mr Wingrove himself. Keep up the good work.

  3. Brilliant.
Oh, how I wish the remake had been finished.

Just started re(re-re-re-re)-reading the series this week. It’s great addition to have the mini stories. I print them, label them, then carefully fold them into my Chung Kuo collector’s edition, to be read in order.

David and Matt, thank you, Chun-Tzu.

  4. Phew! Finally a “pill” of our dear Chung Kuo world… how many longed for something new! Thanks to Mr Wingrove … and Matt
    Pleaseeeee…

  5. Mr. Wingrove thank you for continuing to provide us with Chung Kuo material. I absolutely love your work.

And Matt thank you for your work also.

  6. Like many I am eager to hear of any news on the ebooking of Chung Kuo.

Since I am kind of catching up on the news from the last couple of years, about the books from 8/9 onwards not being released by Corvus, I am eager to have a satisfying finish to Chung Kuo. Wasn’t a great fan of the Marriage of Living Dark, it never felt right. Anyway, enough grumbling.

Since I own the original 8 and have purchased the 2 new prequels, how do the original 8 books sit now. Do I basically need to re purchase books 3 – 9 and or can I just re read. just looking of some guidance/roadmap.

Thanks as always for an excellent piece of work.

    1. I am very early in my parallel reading of the original and new books. So far I’m about a quarter of the way through book 3 of the re-release. And there have been very few differences so far. A few words, phrases, and punctuation marks are tweeked here and there and that is about it. I think there has been one sentence so far that was entirely different, but it was more a style choice than a content choice. Given this initial impression, I would guess that things through the currently released new volumes are probably pretty close to the original. However, as you get later into the series I would expect there to be more differences because, as David has said, the new ending will require weaving some new strands into the story to make it all fit together.

  7. very nice! However, as I am stuck at the end of the re-released novels (also German originals got cancelled during their first release), I can’t read it as I am not that far in the story … 🙁
where are the ebooks of the remaining ones? 😉

  8. Thanks for sharing this. Its a beautiful little story with a bittersweet ending.

Just discovered this blog and enjoying all the things you are sharing and commenting. I had been trying to remember the name of this awesome scifi series for years- first read some of it as a teen but then lost sight of it- finally found it just a few weeks ago after an intense amount of googling. Since then I’ve read all the recasts in my library’s ebook collection (but need to request #7 and #8 too). Look forward to more updates and hopefully beautiful snippets like this.
