Big news today.
I’ve received word that there will be an official Chung Kuo re-launch party in London on the evening of June 22, the publication day of Son of Heaven. Ironically enough, I’ll be traveling to Shanghai that day, so I won’t be able to attend. Otherwise, I would probably try to make the transatlantic trip.
The event will also mark the launch of Fragile Books, David Wingrove’s new publishing company that will be releasing the Chung Kuo series. He’s talked a bit about the new company before.
There are a limited number of spaces for this event, so, if you think you might be able to attend, send a note along to Wingrove’s Fragile Media partner, Susan Oudot, at susanoudot [at] btinternet.com to RSVP, and she’ll send along the time and place if there’s still space.
If someone can go and provide a report for this site, that would be terrific!
Also noteworthy is a new reflection by Susan Oudot on BookBruch, featuring a short publication history of Chung Kuo. Not too much new there for Chung Kuo diehards, but an excellent read nonetheless.
And, of course, it’s nice to see another confirmation of this:
Fragile Books will reissue volume 1 of the Chung Kuo series, Son of Heaven, on 22 June; volumes 2-7 will be reissued over the summer. The new novel in the series, Monsters of the Deep, will be published in September.

Thanks as always
I live in London and would definitely love to attend this. I went to the original Corvus Son of Heaven book launch at the Forbidden Planet shop in Leicester Square 6 years ago and it was awesome, it really was.
Looking back on that day, it was just a tremendous feeling to know that I was there right at the beginning of something which means a great deal to me, I mean I grew up reading these books after all.
Are you saying this launch is invite only? If that’s the case I’ll have to investigate and see if there’s any way to snag an invite for myself!
I don’t think it’s invite only so much as it is just space-limited, so I was asked to not share the specifics out of concern that they might end up exceeding the allotted number of guests. Shoot an email over to Susan; I suspect there’s plenty of space left at this point.
New Chung Kuo novel in september, wow!
ah would love to go there. Impossible from Tokyo in my current situation … 🙁
sent an e-mail off last week about wanting to attend this event, but didn’t get a reply. From that I’m assuming this isn’t something for the general public, but friends, family and industry figures only. Which is fair enough.
Thanks for a piece of very tasty info! I’m a huge fan of Chung Kuo series, and since I bought all re-release books on Amazon in 2014 and found there are no Monsters if the Deep because of Corvus, I was gnawing my nails up to elbows.
Congrats to David & Susan for the launch tonight!
